1/ Always compare insurance policies when you get your quotes. It is unquestionably
worthwhile to shop around. This is one of the great advantages of the internet where you can do this quite quickly using a car insurance
price comparison website. The key points of the cover are usually listed out for you company by company. if they aren't then choose
another comparison site. You can also ask your friends to see if they would recommend an insurance company. You can lower your car
insurance costs this way.
2/ Nevertheless price alone should not be the key reason to choose your car insurance policy. You might get a cheap price and then
find that you can't get good service and you might not be as well covered as you first thought (see 1 above). As a minimum make sure you
always get at least 3 quotes at any one time before making a decision. With online price comparison sites and brokers this is easy to do.
Select the one that satisfies your lower car insurance needs and that you feel comfortable with.
3/ Another simple way of reducing your up front car insurance cost is to allow for a larger excess or deductible if you should have a claim. This means a slightly smaller payout for the auto insurance company and
lower premiums for you. BUT you need to make sure that this money is always available to you in case you need
to claim. It is also an incentive to drive more carefully as well, which is a win win situation!
4/ If you drive an older car then maybe you don't need comprehensive cover if the value of the car is low. You can find the value of
your car approximately by a simple Internet search. A minimal cover will suffice and you will save money.
5/ Check with the car insurance company to see if they offer reduced rates for lesser distances traveled each year. You must be
careful to make sure you are accurate with your distance estimate as if it was found out you had gone further than the policy allowed
you would not be covered. Again the price comparison online sites usually provide this
information for you as options. It makes you think about using maybe public transport more as well which is a "greener" way to go as
well. So lower your distance traveled to lower your car insurance
6/ Check to see if you really need all the extras you will be offered like a temporary replacement car or overnight accommodation and
so on. If you don't travel far you will see the benefit of removing some of these options and then the savings you can make. just make
sure you have sufficient coverage thats all.
7/ Ensure sure your credit report looks OK. Car insurance companies often look at your credit history as there can be a correlation
between the risk to the company and your credit history. If you pay your bills on time and maintain a good credit history, you can
usually enjoy lower auto insurance costs.
8/ Hold a good driving record. Most car insurance companies will reduce the premium the longer you have been claim free. This includes
driving violations such as speeding and drink driving as well as careless driving or theft! Drive properly and safely and you will
benefit not only in reduced premiums but your will enjoy a less stressful and relaxing drive as well, can't be bad.
9/ Check out discounts for security and safety devices fitted to your car. Usually this will be in the questions online but not always
and maybe not with a broker. So ask if anti lock brakes and tracking devices reduce the costs, car alarms and airbags will help too.
If the insurance company sees that your car is less likely to be involved in an accident or is going to be hard to steal then they may
reduce the premiums some more.
10/ This is the hardest for me I must say but try and choose a lower-profile car, insurance rates vary with different models of
vehicles. Generally, sports cars and high-performance cars will cost more to insure, mainly because they represent more risk of theft and
the drivers are sometimes the people who drive more recklessly. Well I don't think I do though! Newer cars will cost more to repair or
replace than older ones, so naturally they can cost more to insure, but this may be offset by the extra security and safety features they
have.
